Description

Just a little something that I did for class. I'm finally a college senior, so my professors are finally letting me do my own thing. I'm probably the only person in the Painting and Drawing program who doesn't aspire to be a professional painter, so it's been a real uphill struggle to find my little niche and work on what I need to be working on. It's really a welcome change.

I'm using this new-found freedom to put all my focus into improving my inks this semester. Although I feel like I've really come a long way in only a few years with digital inking, my traditional inks have sort of been neglected. Oops!

I've been experimenting with all sorts of pen nibs to find something that really works for me. Before, I had only played with globe-point, bowl-point, and crow-quill pens - pretty stiff stuff that doesn't really allow for much variation. Lately, though, I'm finding myself really liking the flexibility and line variation of Hunt Imperial and round-point pens. Now if I could only get them not drip ink splotches on my work when I use them!

I always find my pen work more detailed than my digital ones... some things are still easier to control on paper. But with digital I get no physical off screen mess! Sigh.

Anyway, love what you've done here! Though I'd personally go a bit easier on the crosshatching in places. The solid blacks are brilliant where you've had them, and the forms and perspective can't really be faulted. Also love love the fire and general colour scheme.
