DW- The Pandorica Opens :Line: by Taylor-the-Weird DW- The Pandorica Opens :Line: by Taylor-the-Weird
PICTURE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE PANDORICA OPENS, buuuuut, you've already seen the pic by now, I'm sure. Sorry?

Colored Version - [link]

_____

Long time, no see, eh? College has been busy. Ridiculously busy. Absurdly, ridiculously busy. About two all-nighters a week, busy.

So, my newest obsession? Doctor Who. I would become straight for the Doctor (Most specifically, the 4th, 10th, and 11th. MAAAAYBE 9th.) I started watching it last summer, but I was never able to catch it enough for the show to flourish into full-fledged obsession. Then I went to college and met Colleen, who is a sci-fi enabler. If you're reading this, Colleen, you are a science fiction, knitting, and fanfiction enabler. You're awesome.

So, I have mono. Again. A different strain of it, too. I've got lots of spare time on my hands. During the school semester, I got out of the habit of drawing for myself in my spare time, because I spent all spare time sleeping. Or masterminding geeky midnight chalk drawing raids. ANYWAY! Lots of spare time - I figured that I should probably get back into the habit of drawing on any and every thing, and not just my schoolwork.

I'm planning on coloring this, but I'm so proud of the lineart that I wanted to post it as a separate image.

Long story short, I'm back, I'm free, and Matt Smith has SUCH an awesome face.

_____

EDIT

I've had a couple people ask if they could color the line art. My answer? A resounding DO EET! I would LOVE to see what you guys can come up with; it fills me with just so much excitement! Feel free to try your hand at coloring my line work - just let me know, and be sure to give credit where credit is due.

So tell me, why aren't you doing the comics for Doctor Who magazine? You draw him so well :D

It's a really good picture! I like it!

Only one more day to go until doctor who....

Oh, I wish! You have no idea how happy your comment just made me.

As much as I'd love to, I'm a 19-year-old college student. Creating comics is my goal, so after I graduate... well, that's a different story...

And thank you!

Fantastic work! The depth you achieve with shadows is great. And Matt Smith's face is awesome--I love drawing it.

I look forward to seeing more of your Doctor Who work! :)

Nice art. For some reason it reminds me of Troughton in The Mind Robber - which is a very good thing. Looks like classic comic strip Doctor Who.

Hmmm - "The Mind Robber", you say? Well, I have to say, it certainly would be interesting to see the Eleventh Doctor try to recreate Rory's face.

I have to admit, I haven't read any of the classic Doctor Who comics, as I have yet to see a trade version of them here in the US.

I gotta say, the inking here is gorgeous, like out of a real pro black and white graphic novel. It's awesome enough in just inks; where to place solid black shadows and hatching is always something that gets me all flim-flammed.

My jaw was stuck hanging open for at least ten minutes after the episode ended. It was that epic.

Such high praise! Thank you; I'm honored! I'm hoping to be a comic book artist after I graduate college, so being told that my stuff looks professional fills me with wibbley glee (and probably does unspeakable things to my ego.)

It's really not that hard, actually, doing black shadows and cross-hatch; it just takes practice learning how to think in strictly black-and-white. The rule I generally go by is wherever there would be a hard, dark, sharp shadow, it's a safe bet that straight black would look good there. A softer, lighter shadow or a shadow that needs to show the form of the object lends itself to cross-hatching, more. All-in-all, though, it's a matter of preference with what you think lends itself to your style.

You should! When we finally have that Star Wars fest, we should throw in some Doctor Who in, too, for good measure.

And, sorry, the mono isn't gone yet. The dead fish hat is helping, though. XD

YES! We should! I go up to school in like a million months, so we can do it anytime you feel better. Have any vicious kittens attacked you recently? I hear they can make you tired.

Is Gabs going around, telling people about Janae's kittens being my kryptonite? I haven't had to fight off any hordes of them lately, but I have been feeding the neighbor's cats while they're on vacation. Fortunately, they are fully mature, so they no longer emit kitten radiation.

I am getting better, bit by bit. I am actually capable of going places without feeling like I'm going to die, now. Eeez very nice.

You told me. I too am fully aware of the dangers of kitten radiation. Some kittens at work gave me ringworm. Now I am the host of a very malicious fungus bent on infecting the population of west St. Tammany Parish, but even worse, sometimes my arm itches.
